Title I / CPAC
PSMS 007 Title I / CPAC
Title 1 is the United States’ oldest and largest federally funded program. Originally under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, the policy was rewritten in 1994 to improve the fundamental goals of helping at-risk students.
Title 1 is part of the federal legislation called Every Student Success Act (ESSA), which replaced No Child Left Behind. It provides additional funding to schools and districts to help address the needs of students from low-income families and bridge the gap between them and other students. Family and parent involvement is required by law for schools receiving Title 1 funding.
Every NYCDOE Title I school is mandated to have a Title I Parent Advisory Council (PAC). This council, a consultative and representative body, actively engages all parents of students in the Title I program. It plays a pivotal role in decision-making processes, such as formulating the Title I plan and scrutinizing the school's Title I budget. With PAC leaders serving a two-year term, we urge all parents to consider joining the PAC to contribute to the school's success. Your current PAC members for the 2023-2025 school year are listed below.
We are proud to have Tia Jackson, a dedicated and knowledgeable individual, leading our Title 1 Program. Tia's commitment to the success of PS/MS 007 is unwavering, and her personal connection to the school, as a parent of a current student, makes her an ideal Leader.
Hi all,
I am Tia Jackson, PS/MS 007's current Title 1 chair. My son currently attends PS/MS 007 and loves this school. Because of that, I knew I wanted to make a difference and be involved at the school level in addition to my state-level involvement.
This position allows me to see where parental increase is needed, want and provide opportunities for parent engagement, and ensure that the 1% of Title 1 funding provided to the school is utilized for parent enrichment. I look forward to assisting PS/MS 007 in becoming one of the top, if not the top, schools in District 4.
Title 1 Co-chair, Evelis Galarza Serrano, is an experienced and knowledgeable individual committed to the success of PS/MS 007 and District 4.
Hi PS/MS 007 Families,
I am Evelis Galarza-Serrano your PA secretary and Title 1 Co Chair. My daughters currently attend PS/MS 007 and being a part of our school community has been the best experience for my girls. They love going to school every morning and as a parent it makes me happy to see my girls looking forward to being in school.
I take pride in being a Parent Leader and a part of our D4 Community & PAC Team. Being able to be a part of D4 at this level has definitely been a blessing for me. My passion has always been to come back to the D4 Community I grew up in to advocate and assist all families. We encourage all parents to learn more about the Title 1 program and how it can benefit their child's education. Please utilize the links below for more information and get involved.
